Australia, India, South Africa and Great Britain have qualified for the women’s cricket event at the LA28 Olympics. The four sides earned their places through the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, finishing as the top eligible team from their continent. Australia qualified from Oceania, India from Asia, South Africa from Africa, and Great Britain, via England’s run, from Europe.
West Indies reached the semi-finals but will not feature at the Olympics. The Caribbean side competes as a composite of nations and is not recognised as an IOC National Olympic Committee. They will instead get a route to LA28 through a new ICC Olympics Qualifier event in 2027.
The men’s event will follow a separate path, with four spots going to the highest-ranked eligible teams from Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania based on ICC T20I rankings as of December 31, 2026.
USA’s Path to a Host Nation Spot
The fifth spot in both the men’s and women’s events is reserved for USA as the host nation, but only if they meet a ranking condition. The USA men’s and women’s teams must finish in the top 15 of the ICC T20I rankings at any point between June 30, 2026 and December 31, 2026 to claim automatic qualification.
The USA men’s team currently sits 13th in the rankings, putting them in a strong position to qualify. The women’s team is ranked 20th and will need to climb into the top 15 within the qualification window. If the women’s team fails to meet this benchmark, the fifth spot will instead go to the highest-ranked non-qualified nation from any continent as of March 1, 2027.
Qualifier Event to Decide Final Spot
The sixth and final team in each event will be determined through a dedicated Qualifier event featuring eight nations in both the men’s and women’s draws. Entry into this Qualifier will be based on ICC T20I rankings.
A separate provision applies to West Indies. If their men’s and women’s teams rank among the eight highest-placed sides yet to qualify by December 31, 2026, a dedicated Caribbean Qualifier will be held to decide which Caribbean nation advances to the main Olympics Qualifier event.
Format and Venue for LA28 Cricket
At the Olympics, the six qualified teams in each event will be split into two groups of three. Every team will play the other two sides in its group once, followed by two additional matches against teams from the opposite group, excluding the side that finished in the same position. The top two teams overall will then meet in the final for gold and silver, while the third- and fourth-placed sides will play for bronze.
The men’s and women’s events combined will feature 28 matches. All matches, across both competitions, will be held at the purpose-built cricket venue in Pomona, marking cricket’s return to the Olympic stage after more than a century.
