Betsson has been officially removed from Finland’s payment blocking list as of 24 October, ending a 12-month period on the blacklist.
The Swedish operator’s former parent company, BML Group, is no longer flagged by Finland’s National Police Board (NPB) as a restricted entity for payment processing – leaving the list entirely empty for now, with no B2C operators included.
The decision comes after Betsson appealed the NPB’s blacklisting to the Supreme Administrative Court in Helsinki, a case it ultimately lost in December 2024. Under Finnish rules, companies can remain on the list for up to 12 months, with possible extensions if violations persist. However, Betsson’s 12-month term was complicated by a freeze during the court proceedings.
Earlier, in May 2023, the NPB imposed a €2.4 million fine on Betsson for alleged marketing breaches targeting Finnish players – an accusation the company has consistently denied.
Currently, only state-owned Veikkaus holds the right to operate gambling services in Finland. However, the country plans to adopt a competitive licensing system in January 2027, aligning with other Nordic markets and paving the way for international operators to enter the newly regulated landscape.
