Cricket South Africa (CSA) has added three T20 International (T20I) matches to the India Women’s tour of South Africa. The tour now includes matches in all three formats of the game. On 6 August 2026, the cricket board revealed the updated plan for the series.
The Indian team will travel to South Africa for nearly a month to play one Test match, three One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and the three new T20Is. This change means the Indian squad will stay in the country for an extra week to finish the series. The entire tour will now take place from 9 December to 30 December 2026.

The main reason for the update is to help both teams prepare for the future. Specifically, the matches provide practice for the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy. This major event will happen in Sri Lanka in February 2027.

Pholetsi Moseki, the CEO of Cricket South Africa, stated that the extra games ensure the Proteas Women have the best preparation. He also noted that India is one of the strongest teams in the world. Therefore, playing them in every format gives the players a chance to learn and grow before the big tournament.
Details of the Multi-Format Series
The tour begins with a red-ball match. Both teams will play a one-off Test match at St. George’s Park in Gqeberha. This match starts on 9 December and ends on 12 December 2026. This contest will be the first time the teams meet on this tour. Afterward, the focus shifts to white-ball cricket for the ODI series.
The three-match ODI series is part of the ICC Women’s Championship. These games are very important because they help teams qualify for the 2029 ODI World Cup. The first ODI takes place in Paarl on 16 December. The second match happens in Cape Town on 19 December. Finally, the third ODI will be in Bloemfontein on 22 December. These matches give both teams a chance to earn points in the global standings.
The New T20I Series and Boxing Day Highlight
The most exciting part of the updated schedule is the T20I series. These three matches will happen during the festive season. The first T20I is a special “Boxing Day” match on 26 December. It will take place at Willowmoore Park in Benoni. Fans consider Boxing Day matches to be very special events in the cricket world.
The series will then move to Potchefstroom for the final two games. Both the second and third T20Is will be played at the NWC Oval. These matches are scheduled for 29 December and 30 December. All three T20I matches will start at 6 pm local time. Consequently, the tour will end just before the New Year.
Recent Rivalry and Past Results
Earlier this year, India visited South Africa in March and April for a T20I series. During that visit, South Africa performed very well and won the series 4-1. One of those matches at the Wanderers Stadium saw South Africa chase down 192 runs easily. In that game, Laura Wolvaardt scored 115 runs to help her team win by nine wickets.
The teams also met during the T20 World Cup in England. South Africa won that game too, which stopped India from reaching the semi-finals. India have had success against South Africa in other formats. In 2025, India won their first title in that format when they beat South Africa in the final of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
